_/i - "Blanga", 2005

Dontcha just love 'em? Of course I knew them in the 80s, but had no idea they reformed. No-one makes records like this any more. "No, everyone makes records like this these days!" Nope, they don't. They are all scared.

_east of _aust day 5: "Faust Is Last", 2010

As the Zappi/Peron incarnation of Faust are churning out album after album (with a new one scheduled for January 2011), the Irmler/Lobdell party, who as a matter of fact are the continuing Faust aren't they, are somewhat more reticent. This double-disc monster has actually been their only proper album. Which is a shame really. The usual drones and noises, agreed, but so _uckin' sublime and powerful. Get Disk A and Disk Z and burn them onto two black cd-r's.

_east of _aust day 3: "Patchwork 1971-2002" and bonus

('Tis the most enjoyable bit of the cover art)
This editing frenzy is a subdued companion to 1973's "The Faust Tapes". Does not stand the comparison, alas (well, "TFT" is a piece of fuckin' genius), but all in all is solid on its own. And for all you completists/fetishists to know: this is the ONLY record to contain any manner whatsoever Faust recordings from the 1980s. So, no other way than dig it.

Bonus: I can't imagine a life without J'AI MAL AUX DENTS J'AI MAL AUX PIEDS AUSSI, so get The Faust Tapes if only to make the aforementioned comparison.

_east of _aust day 2: "Trial and Error" CD-R, 2005

In case you didn't know, there currently are TWO bands named Faust. Circa 2003, Zappi Diermaier abandoned the existing group and joined forces with Jean Herve Peron, who had left some time earlier. Both incarnations tour and record, although the Zappi/Peron party are more active. These are reportedly spot-on improvisations of a brand new line-up (gee, where did that line come from?) featuring them two and perhaps musicians from Ulan Bator (the band, not the city).

_east of _aust day 1: "Edinburgh 1997"

First in the series of lesser known, yet no less enjoyable Faust records. These recordings reportedly were spot-on improvisations of a brand new line-up, just after Jean Herve Peron left the band. Get the delicatessen in mp3 here, or FLAC: part 1, part 2.
